National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio Information
(Apr 14, 2008 - 1:31:15 PM)
The best way to survive an emergency is to know when it's coming so you can take appropriate action. A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Admininistration (NOAA) Weather Radio is the optimal way to hear watches and warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS) even if they are issued in the middle of the night. NOAA Weather Radios are recommended as standard equipment in every home and public gathering place.
As a part of personal preparedness, the Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness encourages everyone to have a NOAA radio and know how to use it.
When programming your weather radio, use this link "Georgia County Coverage" to find your county's SAME#, NWR Transmitter, Frequency, Call Sign and Watts.
Take time, in advance of an emergency, to read/download these informative links and flyers.
Contact the Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness at osep@uga.edu if you have any additional questions regarding using weather radios on campus.

UGAAlert Test 2008
(Jan 4, 2008 - 3:07:48 PM)
On February 8th, 2008, UGA conducted a test of UGAAlert in conjunction with annual Severe Weather Drill. This test simulated sending out an emergency message. A brief message stating that a test of the UGAAlert system was being conducted was sent out to all users in the system. The message included notifications via voice phone calls to offices and cell phones, e-mail messages, and SMS text messages. Users were contacted through every method listed in their account.
The previous test of UGAAlert was conducted on Sept. 26, 2007.
Users are encouraged to update their contact information at http://www.ugaalert.uga.edu. Please contact the Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness at 706-542-5845 or e-mail us at osep@uga.edu with any questions.
Thank you to all who participated in the drill and provided feedback from the drill.
UGAAlert FAQs
(Dec 7, 2007 - 9:26:06 AM)Effective communication is one of the major challenges in emergency management. UGAAlert will be used to improve our ability to communicate prior to, during, and after emergencies. UGA students, faculty, and staff with a valid MyID can register up to three telephone numbers and two email addresses to receive emergency alerts. The system can push out thousands of messages within minutes.
