Campus on Alert: What does it mean?
Jul 25, 2007 - 12:47:42 PM Threats to security are in a constant state of flux nationally. The changes can range from subtle to extremely volatile reactions to events occurring worldwide. In order to provide the maximum amount of time to adjust to changing events, the University Office of Security Preparedness' web site will display information continuously about the National Alert Status. The alert status information will be provided in two ways. First, the color-coded National Alert Status used by the Federal Department of Homeland Security will be displayed in the upper right hand corner of the web page. Explanations of the different color codes can be found under Homeland Security Terrorist Warning Systems Codes in the "INFORMATION" section on this web page. These alerts are important and will not only help us prepare to address emergencies on campus, but in our personal lives as well.
Secondly, in the "AWARENESS" section, under Campus Alerts, information will be provided to explain the status of the alert as it pertains to the University of Georgia, and provide as much pertinent information that is available to help prepare for the various threat levels.
The campus is only protected when every individual actively participates in staying informed and being aware of what goes on in their environment. Events occurring in your surroundings may be important to the security of the entire campus. It is therefore requested that employees and students participate in the campus security effort by reporting suspicious activity as soon as possible to the University Police Department.
