National Incident Management System (NIMS) Compliance and Training Options and Upcoming Training Classes

NIMS Training Classes offered in May

The Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness (OSEP) manages UGA's National Incident Management System (NIMS) compliance and coordinates on-campus training sessions. All NIMS online training class certificates should be sent to OSEP for recordkeeping purposes.

May 2008 Classes offered at the UGA Training & Development Center:  

> IS-700 National Incident Management System (NIMS): An Introduction - This class is now full.  Additional classes will be scheduled for this summer. BSSRs wll be notified when summer class schedule becomes available.

> ICS-100 Introduction to Command - This class is now full. Additional classes will be scheduled for this summer. BSSRs will be notified when summer class schedule becomes available.

BSSR Certification Program

A new program is in the works for a Building Safety and Security Representative (BSSR) Certification Program. This program is designed to promote a culture of safety, security and emergency planning in each building on campus by designating  reliable individuals in each building to take on the challenges associated with building emergency planning. The BSSR Certification Program is an enhancement to the current BSSR program to promote additional training and incentives for interested BSSRs. The certification program is not a requirement under the current UGA BSSR policy; however, there are advantages of completing the requirements to be a Certified BSSR.

Building Safety and Security Representatives Orientation Training Sessions

The Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness (OSEP) is offering two orientation training sessions in May and June 2008 for Building Safety and Security Representatives (BSSRs).

These sessions introduce BSSRs to the Building Safety and Security initiative and includes a question and answer opportunity for BSSRs. All BSSRs are encouraged to attend an orientation training session (off-campus BSSRs may view an orientation training video available from a link from this web site in the BSSR section).

The Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness (OSEP) produced a short video "Orientation to the Building Safety and Security Representative (BSSR) Program" in order to provide a convenient way to introduce the program to those BSSRs who cannot attend an orientation class held on campus or for those BSSRs who work at off campus locations.

The video is not intended to cover all aspects of the BSSR program, but rather an overview of resources that are available to the BSSRs, including templates and training opportunities. OSEP strongly encourages all Athens area BSSR program participants to attend a live training session if possible.
