Railroad Safety on Campus

Several roads and walkways on the University of Georgia campus intersect or border railroad tracks. Railroads can be dangerous areas. Please remember that railroad areas are private property and people found trespassing on parked or moving railcars are subject to arrest.

The University of Georgia Police Department has created an informational link from their web site to assist with safety information regarding railroads.

 


ACADEMIC-PROFESSIONAL SECURITY SERIES

The Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness will host periodic seminars designed to bring together professionals and academics working in the areas of security to increase collaboration between the two groups. The seminars are part of the Academic-Professional Security Series.

Multi-agency Public Safety Exercise on the UGA Campus (Photo Gallery)

On Dec. 20, 2007 the University of Georgia, in collaboration with local hospitals and first responders, conducted a multi-agency public safey exercise that simulated a large mass casualty emergency. The goal of the simulated emergency exercise was to better prepare first responders in case of an actual campus emergency. Participating agencies in the exercise included  the University of Georgia Police Department, the University of Georgia Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness,the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services, St. mary's Hospital, Athens Regional Medical Center, the American Red Cross and the Oconee County Emergency Management Agensy.The exercise featured enactments of a natural explosion in a residence hall and a bus hostage situation. 2008 Severe Weather Awareness Week

UGA will participate in Severe Weather Awareness Week which is scheduled for February 3-9, 2008.  UGA will conduct a test of UGAAlert in conjunction with the annual Severe Weather Drill scheduled for Friday, February 8, 2008.

 (NOTE: The National Weather Service (NWS) rescheduled the statewide severe weather drill from Wednesday, February 6, 2008 to Friday, February 8, 2008 due to the threat of severe weather in north Georgia for Wednesday)

Governor Sonny Perdue has issued a Proclamation proclaiming the week of February 3-9, 2008 as SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK in Georgia.
