Training and Classes Offered by OSEP

The Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness (OSEP) also offers emergency planning and preparedness training through a variety of programs and classes - some by request. See list below for a sample of classes offered. Class schedules and registration links will be posted on this site's homepage as they become available. Check this site often for class updates and information. Complete listing of OSEP training classes. (downloadable .pdf document) After September 11, 2001, federal, state, and local emergency and enforcement agencies enhanced their emergency preparedness plans and training. However, as witnessed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, first responders may not be able to prevent the loss of lives and property during a large scale disaster. Therefore, it is imperative that everyone learn how to respond to warnings, prepare to address emergency situations, and sustain themselves to help lessen the personal impact of a natural or man-made disaster.

The Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness (OSEP) manages UGA's NIMS compliance, coordinates on-campus training sessions and maintains NIMS training records.

National Incident Management System (NIMS) Compliance and Training Options and Upcoming Training Classes

Upcoming NIMS Training Classes
The Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness (OSEP) manages UGA's National Incident Management System (NIMS) compliance and coordinates on-campus training sessions. All NIMS online training class certificates should be sent to OSEP for recordkeeping purposes.
BSSRs wll be notified as NIMS classes become available.

NIMS Training Policy -2008

The UGA 2008 NIMS Training Policy requires that all UGA personnel who routinely respond to campus emergencies or those who directly or indirectly make incident management decisions regarding building level or campus wide emergencies participate in NIMS training. NIMS Training Plan

The University of Georgia's NIMS Training Plan (a 15 page document available for downloading in .pdf) was created to formalize OSEP's approach to address NIMS compliance in a consistent manner on campus. Furthermore, the plan will provide details on how OSEP will notify, train and maintain the records of the thousands of identified campus personnel who will need NIMS training in support of our campus compliance efforts.
