- Who can participate in the Campus Security Officer Certification Program?
The program is open to campus security officers employed by the University of Georgia.
- What are the benefits of participating?
The Campus Security Officer Certification Program provides enhanced and consistent training for all campus security officers as well as a better understanding of building emergency plans and security procedures. The program also offers an opportunity to network on campus. Upon completion of the program, the campus security officer will receive a certificate of recognition.
- What classes are involved in the program?
The program is designed for five required classes to be taken in the series. The program includes the following classes:
Basic Emergency Preparedness Class (required)
Incident Command System - NIMS ICS 100.a (required)
Fire Safety (required)
Conflict De-escalation Techniques (required)
Dawg Watch: Preventing Acts of Terrorism on the UGA Campus (required)
In addition to the above required classes, the following elective classes are offered:
National Incident Management System - NIMS IS 700.a (elective)
Crisis Intervention (elective)
- How will I know when classes will be offered?
Class descriptions, schedules as well as program registration links will be provided on this web site under the Training/Campus Security Officer Certification Program/Upcoming Training Programs link.
- How can I check my training progress?
Participants in the Campus Security Officer Certification Program will be able to log in, using their UGA MYId, to a web-based program to review classes they have taken as well as classes they need to take to complete their certification.
- Is there any cost to the participants for this program?
No, the program is provided at no cost to the participants.

How do I register for the program?
Participants may register HERE for the program, as well as review their training progress, using their UGA MYId.
Do I need permission from my supervisor to register and participate in the program?
Yes, participants need prior approval from their supervisos in order to register and participate in the Campus Security Officer Certification Program.
- How often do I need to get recertified?
The Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness will offer re-certification courses each year.
