The UGA HOMEPAGE LINK provides important flu information for UGA faculty, students and staff.

Cases of H1N1 influenza have been found in the Athens area and on campus.  While most cases of H1N1 influenza are mild, many experts believe more people than normal will get sick with the flu this year.  Below are some tips that will help prevent the spread of the flu and hopefully keep you well.

  1. If you are sick, avoid contact with other people. If you can go to your permanent home and recover, that would be best. Avoid contact with others until you are free of a fever for 24 hours.
  2. Cover your coughs and sneezes. When you cough or sneeze, cover it with your sleeve rather than your hands. If you use your hands, wash your hands immediately. If you use a tissue, throw away the tissue.
  3. Wash your hands frequently using soap and water or an alcohol based hand sanitizer
  4. Clean common areas such as bathrooms, door knobs, kitchens, and other commonly touched areas/fixtures multiple times a day. Disinfectant wipes can be used for this.
  5. Get a seasonal flu shot when it is available and get an H1N1 vaccination shot(s) when they become available.

In order to be proactive and to make sure the entire campus is doing their part to promote a healthy environment, two flyers were created as a part of a campus-wide awareness campaign.

Departments may use either flyer design:

          1. Wash your hands frequently

          2. Cover your cough with your sleeve

          3. Stay home if you are sick

          4. Get a flu shot

Two Upcoming "Flu Awareness" Events are Planned:

The Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness and volunteers from UGA CERT are hosting two campus events to promote the campus-wide "Spread the Word - Not the Flu" campaign. This event is open to the campus community as well as to the public.

The University Health Center has a list of resources and helpful links on their website.

UGA students with specific medical questions, may contact their assigned team at the University Health Center using the appropriate phone number listed below. To find out what team you are assigned to call 706-542-8617 or use the Health Center Open Communicator to make an appointment.
